H.E. Dr. Khaled Mahdi

Secretary General, Supreme Council for Planning & Development (SCPD)

Khaled A. Mahdi is the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (GSSCPD) of Kuwait, and is the Program Director of the Country Plan Action Program of UNDP in Kuwait. He is a member on several high-level government boards and committees, such as the Public Authority for Industries, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Researches, the Public Housing Authority, the Economic and Fiscal Reform Committee and the Kuwait Master plan 2040, among others.  Since he assumed his current post, Khaled established four development research centers at GSSCPD:  the Kuwait Public Policy Center (KPPC), the National Knowledge Economy Center (NKEC), the National Development Research Center (NDRC) and the National Sustainable Development Observatory (NSDO).  And in his capacity as Secretary General, Khaled established Kuwait’s National Standing Steering Committee for the Implementation of the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in addition to signing several MoUs with local and international organizations to bolster GSSCPD’s capacity and to strengthen GSSCPD’s bilateral relations with strategic partners. 

Khaled is a B.Sc. graduate of the University of Toronto and holds a Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University in Chemical Engineering.  He is a Certified Consultant Engineer (CEng), a Project Management Professional (PMP) and PRINCE2, a certified GCC Arbitrator, and is a member on several international organizations.  Khaled was an Associate Professor in the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University where he taught 30 different engineering and management courses, received the best teaching award, co-authored more than 65 publications in different fields and cofounded SYNERGY, a complex system research group.  Khaled served as an Advisor for the Kuwait University strategic office and for the Minister of Planning and Development Affairs office. He professionally trained more than 1300 professionals and engineers. He sat on several boards of local and regional industrial corporations.

Ali E. Hajiah

Dr. Ali E. Hajiah is a Research Scientist in the Energy and Building Research Center at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). He obtained his Ph.D. in the field of Building Systems Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA, in the year 2000.  Dr. Hajiah joined KISR in 1992 after obtaining his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Thermo-fluid Systems for Energy Conservation) from Santa Clara University, California, USA.

Dr. Hajiah research experiences include Building Systems Simulation, Continuous Commissioning for Energy Efficiency, Thermal Energy Storage Systems, Energy Audit in Buildings, HVAC System Design and Control, Indoor Environmental Quality, Renewable Energy, Sustainable and Low Energy Buildings, and Integrated District Energy and Cooling Systems.

Dr. Ali Hajiah has authored and co-authored more than 50 technical reports and scientific papers. He received the best papers award from the Arab School for Science and Technology in the Ambient Air Pollution workshop held at Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences in the year 2005. He offered many keynote lectures in international conferences and short scientific courses to professional engineers in Kuwait.

Eng. Dina Al Nakib

Holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Kuwait University in 1988. Joined Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research between 1988 and 2014. Involved in a number of projects in the field of power systems, energy conservation, energy auditing with specialty in lighting systems and green buildings assessments. Participated in and organized many seminars and conferences in buildings and energy and has many publications in that area.

Currently Program Manager for the Flagship Projects Program, Research Directorate, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and involved in overseeing pilot projects disseminating proven technologies in Kuwait.

Certified Lighting Energy Professional (CLEP) since 2003.
Certified Energy Auditor and Trainer in 2015.

Raghav Gandhi

Raghav Gandhi is the Vice President - Development at National Real Estate Company, where he has the responsibility for developing projects in geographies across the Middle East. Raghav has built significant experience of working across residential and commercial real estate in the emerging markets. He has had multi-faceted exposure from fundraising to project development to asset management, and has jointly led the growth of a major commercial real estate venture in India. Raghav has previously worked in London in investment banking and the hedge fund space.

Raghav is a member of the Urban Land Institute and has been working extensively to enhance their presence in the Middle East.  He is also a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Raghav is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an MBA from the Wharton School. He is also an alumnus of the London School of Economics, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

Dr. Bader Al-Anzi is the chairman of Department of Environmental Technology & Management at Kuwait University and research affiliate in Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, Boston, USA. He has joined Department of Nuclear & Engineering at MIT as a full time visiting scientist from 2013 to 2014. Having completed graduate studies in chemical engineering from renowned universities, his research experience includes wastewater treatment, desalination, two phase flow/aeration, corrosion, bioengineering and air pollution control. He has authored several papers and book chapters, 1 book, 14 US and 2 European patents. He was a judge for international awards and conferences. He has also worked in several governmental organizations that focus on water desalination and wastewater treatment. He is the principal investigator (PI) of many national and international research projects, including an on-going Kuwait-MIT desalination project worth USD 5.5 million. He supervises PhD & MSc students exploring unconventional wastewater treatment processes individually and jointly with MIT and other organizations. He received several national and international awards as recognition for his work, and one of his inventions has been manufactured and certified by American Aerators Company in USA to be used globally to water and wastewater treatment.

Srinivasan Rangan

Srinivasan Rangan is the Head of Commercial Products Marketing and Strategic Projects for Carrier Middle East.

As the Commercial Products leader, he drives the product strategy and HVAC solutions for customers. This includes working with the Global products team in developing KPI’s complying with ME Regulations and technology trends. He is focused on improving the technical competence of the Sales team in offering value to consulting engineers and technical decision makers. Rangan represents Carrier as the Technical spokesperson for communicating the latest technology and environmental message to the industry in various seminars / events.

Srinivasan has more than 25 years of diversified experience across the Middle East and with leading multi-national companies. He has worked in the HVAC industry for 20 years and has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University India.

Srinivasan has also been recognized for his contribution to Energy, Environment & Sustainability with numerous Merit and Leadership Awards in his distinguished career.
